Please read the following terms carefully before completing your booking with Pico Island Adventures.
Your booking is confirmed upon receipt of full payment. You will receive a confirmation email with your booking reference. Pico Island Adventures operates under Maritime Tourism Licence Nr. 15/2009.
Bookings are non-refundable if the guest cancels or is unable to participate for personal reasons, including changes to travel plans, flight or ferry problems, illness or personal emergencies. We strongly recommend that guests purchase comprehensive travel insurance to cover unforeseen circumstances. All cancellation requests must be submitted in writing to Pico Island Adventures for record purposes.
All excursions are weather-dependent and safety always comes first. If we cannot operate your excursion, we first try to reschedule it during your stay on Pico. Rescheduling, refunds, the recommended minimum stay, route and dive-site changes are governed by our Weather Conditions, Operational Changes & Cancellation Clause, which forms part of these terms.
For weather-dependent activities we recommend a minimum stay on Pico, shown for each tour at booking. By booking online you confirm that you have read and accepted the minimum stay for the selected activity.
Guests must be in good general health to participate. Those with heart conditions, severe seasickness history, recent surgery, or pregnancy should consult a physician before booking. All guests must follow the safety briefing given by the crew.
All diving experiences require Open Water certification (OWD) as a minimum. A mandatory check dive day around Pico is required before accessing advanced sites, including Princess Alice Bank and Condor Bank shark diving.
Azorean law prohibits entering the water in the presence of whales. All wildlife interactions are conducted in accordance with Portuguese maritime and environmental law.
Guests participate in all activities at their own risk. Pico Island Adventures maintains full maritime liability insurance as required by Portuguese law. Personal belongings are the sole responsibility of the guest.
These terms are governed by Portuguese law. Any disputes shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of the Azores, Portugal.
Please accept the Terms and Conditions to continue.
Our excursions take place in the Mid-Atlantic, where weather, wind, swell and sea conditions can change quickly and cannot always be predicted accurately in advance.
We operate our main offshore excursions during the summer months, when weather conditions are generally more stable. Nevertheless, periods of strong wind, high waves, ocean swell or other adverse conditions may occur at any time and may prevent us from safely reaching the planned destination or carrying out the excursion as scheduled.
Safety always comes first. The final decision whether an excursion can operate, whether a route can be followed, or whether a particular dive or snorkeling location can be visited remains entirely with Pico Island Adventures and the captain, skipper, dive supervisor or responsible guide.
For certain excursions, especially offshore diving, shark diving, Princess Alice Bank trips and other weather-dependent activities, we require guests to stay on Pico for a specified minimum number of days.
This minimum stay is requested because it gives us a realistic opportunity to reschedule an excursion if weather or sea conditions prevent us from operating on the originally planned day.
By making an online booking, the customer confirms that they have read and accepted the minimum-stay requirements shown for the selected activity.
If we are unable to operate the booked excursion on the originally scheduled date because of weather, sea conditions, safety considerations or other operational circumstances beyond our reasonable control, we will first try to reschedule the activity during the customer's remaining stay on Pico.
If it is not possible to carry out the booked excursion at any time during the minimum stay period required for that activity, the customer is entitled to a refund of the amount paid for the cancelled service.
Any non-refundable online payment processing charges, credit-card charges, bank charges, currency conversion costs or transfer fees may be deducted from the refunded amount.
If the excursion can be operated or rescheduled during the required stay period, but the customer is unable to participate for personal reasons, the booking remains non-refundable.
This includes, but is not limited to:
In such cases, the booking will be treated as a no-show or customer cancellation, and no refund will be due.
For this reason, we strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance which includes cancellation, interruption, medical and travel disruption cover and which also covers excursions and activities booked separately during the trip.
Customers who choose to book an excursion despite staying on Pico for less than the minimum period stated for that activity accept the additional risk that the excursion may not be possible because of weather conditions.
If alternative operating dates are available but fall outside the customer's stay because the customer has chosen a shorter stay than required, this does not create an entitlement to a refund.
Guests who do not wish to accept the conditions connected with advance reservations may visit our booking office at the Port of Madalena after arriving on Pico and enquire about short-notice or last-minute availability.
Such bookings are entirely subject to availability, suitable weather and remaining capacity. We cannot guarantee that places will still be available.
For sightseeing, coastal and snorkeling excursions, the advertised route and locations are indicative.
Depending on wind direction, ocean swell, currents, visibility and other sea conditions, Pico Island Adventures may change the route, departure time, order of locations, snorkeling sites or planned stops before or during the excursion.
A change of route or location for weather, operational or safety reasons does not constitute a cancellation of the excursion and does not create an entitlement to a refund where a reasonable alternative excursion can be provided.
Our objective is always to provide the safest and most enjoyable experience possible under the conditions of the day.
Diving schedules must remain flexible because diving conditions around Pico and at offshore locations can change significantly depending on wind, swell, currents and visibility.
The check dive is normally scheduled for the first diving day and must be successfully completed before participation in certain advanced or offshore diving activities where required.
After the check dive, Pico Island Adventures may change the order of diving days, departure times, dive locations and planned schedule according to weather, sea conditions, diver safety and operational requirements.
Individual dive sites may also be changed immediately before departure or during an excursion if conditions require it.
Such changes are made for safety and operational reasons and do not constitute a cancellation of the booked diving package, provided that a suitable alternative dive or activity included within the booked programme can reasonably be offered.
By completing a booking and accepting our Terms & Conditions, the customer confirms that they have read, understood and accepted this Weather Conditions, Operational Changes & Cancellation Clause.
The customer specifically acknowledges that marine activities in the Mid-Atlantic are weather-dependent and that routes, schedules, dive sites and operating days may need to be changed at short notice for safety reasons.
